Pocket Bags

I have decided to scribble on the pocket bags as a way of adding more colour and a different print. I think it is quite fun and successful. 

Material Exploration

I have found these colourful duffles which would look good at the finishing on the rain coat. I have also tried to see what paint looked like on the pvc plastic. It didnt work that well as the paint was easily scratched off.

Shirt Detail

I thought it might look good to ad a little 3D detail to the yoke of a shirt. Unfortunately it didn't look that great so I decided to scrap the idea.

Raincoat Material

I am still trying to find the material I want for my raincoat. I am getting closer. Im not sure if I like the material below. The detail on the pool bed is not that attractive and the glitter might be a bit girly. If I cant find the fabric I will just have to go with plain and give it a little colour with the stitching.

Rain Coat

My feedback after toile review was to create another silhouette this could include a vest or something more experimental. I had played with some designs in my visual diary and I thought it would be good to create a rain coat. I find that there aren't many raincoats out their for adults let alone any trendy rain coats.

What I thought would be good was to create a see through rain coat so that you can still see the garments underneath. I wanted to stick with my colourway however, I am finding it hard to find colourful see through fabrics. I found some shower curtains with had my colourway in stripes but the material wasn't the best.

I then thought about maybe buying a inflatable chair and cutting it up for my patterns. After talking to my consumer I found that maybe the orange see through might not be that appealing and a clear plastic with colourful highlights like binding could look a lot better.

Material Exploration

I have been thinking about presentation when it comes to the catwalk. I want my mood to be fun yet sophisticated. I had the idea of incorporating children's techniques in my total looks. This would include collages and craft. I purchased a bunch of pom-poms, pipe cleaners, streamers and paddle pop sticks and tried to create something fun which I could use in my presentation.

This is just the beginning and I think with more refinement I could come up with something fun.

I will also be using the chalkboard paint so the wearer can personalise and individualise. Rather than sticking with the usual black chalkboard paint I have decided to experiment with colourful ones to tie in with my aesthetic.

Create your own Converse

I had the idea to have converse all stars as my models shows. I thought it would be a great shoe as the website lets you customise and individualise your own shoe. Below are some of the ones that I designed to match my fabric prints. However, when I went to order them I found that they only deliver to America at this stage. 

So back to searching for my models shoes.

Converse Shoes

For the end of year parade I plan to have my models wearing customised Converse shoes. These shoes will be designed to match the colours of the each garment. According to the website it takes 2 to 3 weeks for your unique and individual creation to arrive.

You can also personalise the shoe with an ID. Since Perpetually Five will not fit it could be an idea to number each shoe design and since I will be having 5 models that could be a nice way to link Perpetually Five.

Sophisticated Prints

My graphic designer also produced some prints with a more sophisticated colour-way.

These colours were based on the current trends that she found through designers such as Marc Jacobs and Paul Smith

Collaboration with graphic designer - Dinah Pollard

I met with Dinah Pollard a graphic designer at ZOO Advertising to help collaborate with me for my fabric designs.

I informed Dinah of what I am trying to achieve with the prints whilst also showing her some of my designs.

Dinah was happy with my original print designs but thought that some of the colour combinations needed some work.

Dinah thought that it would be best to create vibrant colourful prints to reflect the imagination of the child and also to achieve promotional designs.

Together we sat down and worked out my colour-way and tried to refine my prints. Below are the prints that we came up with:

Fabric Design.

Below are the beginning designs of my prints. I have used the children's drawings and created them in Illustrator. The repeat patterns were designed by just moving the images around until I created a pattern which worked. I am happy with the majority of the prints. 

After seeking feedback I am now going to collaborate with a graphic designer to work on colourways, scale and communication of the prints. This is a way to improve the designs and create something that will flow with my concept of creating fun sophisticated menswear.

Digital Fabric Printing

I am looking at digital fabric printing for my collection in stage 6. I have searched around online and sourced feedback from people whom have sourced digitally printed fabrics and the two companies below are what seem to be the most affordable and viable for my collection. I found also that ANU school of arts also print digitally on fabrics which could be an option I explore further as it could be useful being located in Canberra.

DFP were my first initial source as they do student prices and I already have access to their fabric samples here at school. However, they only print onto synthetic fabrics. There is one option the canvas, which could work well for my collection.

I then came across Spoonflower after speaking with Cohen from Zoo Advertising. They are located in America but they are at least half the price of anyone I found here in Australia. Cohen has informed me that they are very professional and their turnaround is very fast. The great thing about Spoonflower is that they print onto a wide variety of natural fabrics. Also if you design your own print you automatically get a 10% discount. I think this option will work well for me this semester. Although it is a risk ordering fabrics from overseas I believe that if I get my designs to them in the next few weeks they will be here in time for me when I start on my final garments. 

I also think it would be a good idea to also work with both companies to compare them both and work with both natural and synthetic fabrics.

Monster Jumper

I wanted this jumper to be really colourful. That way I can create fun and happiness with just the use of colour. It is also a way of making the jumper more of a budget piece as the colour adds to the character of the jumper. This piece is my favourite of the collection I think it has worked out very well.
